The Case for Adult Piano Lessons
A GROWING PHENOMENA! There has been growing interest in taking piano lessons as an adult in the past decade — more and more adults are taking piano lessons for many reasons. In our busy and stressful lives, we all need to break away from our daily routine and do something for ourselves that is fun, meaningful and contribute to personal growth. It is relaxing to play beautiful music, as well as it being an excellent outlet for feelings, emotion, and stress. A BRAND NEW ERA: People who have had unpleasant experiences when they were younger are now flooding back to piano lessons, realizing the importance of music in their lives. Piano seems to be the instrument of choice for adults who have taken lessons when they were younger, as well as for ones who never had any music education at all. Piano lessons have changed for the better over the years. Whether you’ve had some piano experience before or none at all, you will feel inspired to pursue your musical aspirations. AN ARSENAL OF EXCELLENT MUSIC: Playing the music of the great composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Schumann and Gershwin, to name just a few, is an enriching experience and an exciting part of the adult student’s musical education. There is a huge variety of music to play nowadays, instead of classical music being the only choice. Popular songs, Jazz, blues, Broadway, new age, and holiday music are only a few of the choices today. Most adult students enjoy playing different styles for variety. A COUCH POTATO NO MORE! Adult piano students are also interested in having a valuable hobby and useful skill of piano playing. People enjoy playing the piano for relatives during holidays, playing with other musicians, or simply doing something useful and enjoyable. Learning to play is like learning a new language. The learning process is stimulating to the brain and gives a sense of accomplishment. Now that’s more useful than watching television for hours!
